Phase 3 – Public Sculpture

This page records one stage of the Complex Systems pilot at Park Community School. The pilot tests a four-phase process that informs the planned main programme.

The third phase brought the Ring Sheet into the school grounds as a pilot sculpture. Installation moved the collaboratively made structure from workshop activity into a relationship with its site and its community.

This phase tested the transition from making to public installation and established the work that would be observed over time.

Phase 3 – Public Sculpture
The completed sculptural form was developed collaboratively with the school and students, and was installed within the school grounds as a pilot public artwork.

Created from materials grown on site and shaped through collective participation, the sculpture became a physical expression of the community that made it.

On 20 August 2026, we installed a pilot ring sheet as a Hanging Curtain sculpture in the parent willow within the Park Community School car park. Take a look here to follow how we are monitoring changes over the weeks and explore what transformations we might expect in a larger sculpture.

Learning from the Pilot

This was my second successful installation carried out with non-specialist support staff. Diagrams, careful measurements and competent practical support helped coordinate the work.

Developing a regular installation team is an option for Phase 3 of the full programme. The pilot experience can inform how installation roles, preparation and communication are organised for the chosen site.

Follow the installed sculpture’s changes in Pilot Phase 4 – Observation and Change.
