Phase 2 – Building Complexity
In the planned full Complex Systems programme, Phase 2 requires a ring sheet of at least 150 rings (≥150). This larger sheet provides the scale needed for full exploration and manipulation into different sculptural forms. The 35-ring pilot ring sheet tested the smaller connected structure, but was insufficient for exploring those other forms.
From rings to form
The full programme’s ring sheet is a flexible woven surface that can be folded, suspended, draped or tensioned. With at least 150 interconnected rings, it can be manipulated to explore different sculptural forms and the relationships between its parts.
Learning from the Pilot
The pilot highlighted the need to explain and support the transition from making an individual ring to connecting it into the shared sheet. Options include inviting each maker to attach their ring or involving a contributor who enjoys sustained sheet-making. Read the Phase 2 pilot lessons.
The form developed in this phase moves into the public setting during Phase 3 – Public Sculpture.
